How to Host an HBO Max Watch Party With Your Friends.

 As you're presumably aware, HBO's streaming services are fractured and odd. HBO Now and HBO Max Watch Party are two separate services with entirely different programming. In case you're wondering, there isn't yet an HBO Max group streaming app that is officially supported. Scener is the way to go if you only want to view HBO material and not Friends or South Park.

Scener is a Chrome extension. Subscribers may view HBO material like the original show Succession thanks to a collaboration with HBO. It does a lot more than just allow you to watch HBO on social media, but we'll get to that later. Ensure that everyone in your group downloads the extension, clicks the Scener icon in the upper-right corner of Chrome, and logs into HBO Now with their individual credentials.

Once you've done that, the rest is quite simple. The "remote," which is used to control playback and can be handed to another person by clicking on their name in the chat window, is owned by one user. Scener's main distinguishing feature over the others on this list is video chat capabilities. You have the option of actually speaking to your buddies. Of course, text chat is available as well. If you want to watch HBO, this is the way to go.

If you've been Netflix Partying it up in quarantine, you'll be pleased to learn about yet another service that brings remote viewing parties to the public, this time with all of your favourite HBO content.

Scener is a free Chrome extension that allows remote users to stream Netflix and now HBO material while videochatting with each other, going beyond Netflix Party's built-in chatroom capability. This means you can watch reruns of Girls and Game of Thrones, as well as the most recent Westworld finale

To use it, each member of the viewing party must have their own Netflix, HBO Now, or HBO Go membership. (It's unclear whether HBO Max, WarnerMedia's newest streaming service, will be featured on the platform when it launches on May 27.) To refresh your memory, HBO Now is a separate streaming service that does not require a cable subscription, whereas HBO Go is included with your cable subscription.

If you have Chrome version 66.0.3359 or higher, you can download the extension here. Scener allows up to 20 people to join a party and communicate by video, audio, or chat. While it's not quite the same as watching Run on the sofa with your buddies while sharing a bowl of popcorn, it's certainly a close second.
